Mister Terrific II [Leader]

Bio: (Via Comixfan) It looked like Michael Holt would live a charmed life. Not only was he brilliant, making a fortune working for companies like Tylerco, but he was an excellent athlete. But all this came to an abrupt end when his wife Paula was killed in an auto accident. Filled with grief, Michael decided that all that was left for him was to take his own life.

Michael was stopped by nearly being mugged and an appearance by the Spectre. Seeing in Holt something that reminded him of Terry Sloane, the original Mr. Terrific, the Spectre told Holt of Sloane, and how he used his abilities to set a good example for those who idolized criminals and gangsters. Thinking of kids who had tried to mug him, Michael used his know-how to become the new Mr. Terrific.

While Michael worked for some time providing a good example for urban youth, he eventually encountered Sand, chairman of the new JSA, and Sand invited him to come and meet the team. Mr. Terrific became a member of the JSA in time to aid the team against Kobra, and used his T-Spheres, floating mechanical orbs of many different kinds, to distract Kobra as the JSA freed his prisoners.

Michael proved to be an asset to the team. He helped save Sentinel during the attack on the JSA by Johnny Sorrow’s Injustice Society, and was essential when the team was pulled to Thanagar to help in the return of Hawkman and the defeat of Onimar Synn. He often was working with the new Dr. Mid-Nite, Pieter Cross, and the two became friends.

With Hawkman returned, chairmanship of the JSA was called into question, and a vote was taken. To his surprise, Michael was named chairman, just in time for one of his own T-Spheres, co-opted by the villainess Roulette, to kidnap much of the team. He was pitted against Mid-Nite in a chess game where the loser would be electrocuted, but they were able to force a stalemate, and escape. Roulette sent the JSA back, but she had sworn revenge against Michael, and has yet to make her move.

Mr. Terrific continued to be chairman of the JSA, working with the team through a major battle with the Ultra-Humanite. On his next major mission with the team, Michael was tossed back in time with Hawkgirl while fighting Black Barax, and met Terry Sloane. The two found their common ground and worked well together, before going back in time even further to ancient Egypt to find the time displaced Captain Marvel. Upon his return to the present, Michael was badly injured by Mordru, the Dark Lord, during the conspiracy between Mordru, Eclipso, and Obsidian. Later, while fighting a villain called Legacy, Mr. Terrific had to make peace with Paula’s memory, only to learn that, at the time of her death, she was pregnant.

When former JSA allies Black Adam and Atom Smasher, along with a cadre of other heroes, seized control of Adam’s native country of Kahndaq, Hawkman appeared and ordered the JSA to follow him to the country to help him stop Adam. The battle was costly, seeing the deaths of many of Adam’s allies, and Terrific was forced to ask Hawkman to step down from the Society.

When the Spirit King, the spectral villain who was responsible for the death of Terry Sloane, returned from the dead, Michael found himself dealing with the ideas of Hell and an afterlife, things he did not believe in. While helping Dr. Mid-Nite protect his clinic from the dead armies of the Spirit King, he was attacked by the King, possessing the body of the Flash as he did when he killed Sloane. Near death, Michael met the spirits of his departed wife and child, and found a new wellspring of faith.

When the time traveling fascist Per Degaton went back in time and changed the history of the JSA, Michael was one of the current team members who went back in time to put it right. Finding himself in the 1950s, Michael had to face the racism of the time while hunting down Terry Sloane. He found Sloane, who was in New Orleans taking the infant daughter of his ne’er-do-well brother from that era’s Roulette, explaining why Roulette believed herself to be Sloane’s granddaughter and her grudge against Michael for “stealing” Sloane’s name.

Michael convinced Sloane to take up his heroic identity again, and helped stop Degaton’s plan before returning to the present. Michael had to lead the team again into Kahndaq, this time to aid Black Adam against the rogue Spectre and the Eclipso-possessed Jean Loring. The team made it out of the mission alive, but hardly unscathed, with Atom Smasher badly injured and Jakeem Thunder presumed dead. Mister Terrific remains chairman, and will see the team through these troubled times

Mr. Terrific is an excellent athlete, and is in peak physical shape. But his chief attribute is his keen intellect. He has a photographic memory, and can apply and collate all the knowledge he acquires at an amazing rate. He designed the T-Spheres, floating orbs that can be used as video cameras, communication devices, and can project hard light holographs.

Captain Atom

Bio: (Via Wikipedia) In 1968, Nathaniel Adam, a young Air Force captain, was court-martialed for murder and treason and was given two options: he could accept life imprisonment, or he could volunteer to be part of a potentially fatal government operation code named "Captain Atom." If he survived this mission, he would be granted a full Presidential pardon. To Adam, the choice was .clear — he knew that he was innocent of criminal wrongdoings and was willing to risk anything for the chance to prove his innocence to his family.

Some months earlier, the government had discovered a mysterious UFO in the deserts of Nevada. Samples of nearly indestructable metal were taken from its hull for further study. As part of the "Captain Atom" experiment, Adam was encapsulated in a shell made of that metal and was seated on an atomic bomb, which was detonated to record the effects of the blast and radiation. The metal shell did contain the blast, but only slightly, and the government files marked Nathaniel Adam as "deceased," killed in the explosion.

They were wrong. The force of the blast catapulted Adam into the quantum field, the underlying essence of all matter and energy. During the exact moment of the blast, he passed through the field into the future and reappeared eighteen years later, without having aged a day. As a result of his journey, the UFO metal melded with hisbody, granting him fantastic powers. His metallic skin, acting as a conduit into the quantum field, could now allow Adam to fire energy bolts, defy gravity, and utilize super-strength.

Eighteen years later, Adam's original par-don was null and void. In order to earn a new pardon, he consented to work as a super-hero for the U.S. government. In his private life, he was assigned a new back-ground and name, "Cameron Scott"; in public, a massive public relations campaign was launched to make the people trust Captain Atom by believing that he had actually been around for many years, operating in secret. As part of this deal, Captain Atom also joined Justice League International and secretly reported JLI activities to his government contacts.

For a time, Captain Atom grudgingly accepted this situation. Eventually, he became fed up with these lies and with being strung along by his superior, General Wade Eiling, one of the topkicks behind the 1968 "Operation Captain Atom" who never accepted Adam's plea of innocence. Adam temporarily resigned his commission, until the President arranged for him to rejoin the Air Force as a major, reporting to a new superior, General Hilary, a man far more sympathetic to Adam than Eiling.

One of Adam's first tasks upon entering the 1980s was to reintroduce himself to his now-grown son and daughter. At first, their relationship was strained. Margaret, nick-named "Peggy," had trouble accepting a father who was chronologically only fiveyears older than she. Randall's problem was different: Wade Eiling had married Adam's wife after Nathaniel's alleged death, and Randall took his stepfather's work as gospel — including Eiling's insistence that Adam was a traitor. It was only after Adam cleared himself of all charges that his son would have anything to do with him.

Captain Atom has little time to pursue an active personal life, but he has been romantically linked with several women, among them the super-heroine Nightshade; Sally Stone, owner of a San Franciscan '60s nostalgia store; and Catherine Corbert, the JLE's Parisian liaison. He now divides his time between govemment assignments and missions with Justice League Europe.

Black Panther

Bio: (Via Wikipedia)The Black Panther is the title given to the chief of the Panther Tribe of the fictional African nation of Wakanda. The Black Panther rules the nation of Wakanda and is also the chief of the various tribes (collectively referred to as the Wakandas) that comprise the nation's population. The Black Panther uniform is a symbol of office and is used even during diplomatic missions. The Black Panther is entitled to the use of a heart-shaped herb that grants the person who consumes it enhanced strength, agility, and perception. The current bearer of the Black Panther mantle is T'Challa, who has had a lengthy career as a superhero, including a longstanding membership in The Avengers. In recent years, it came to light that the Black Panther originally joined the Avengers with the intention of spying on them. This drove a temporary wedge between T'Challa and his fellow Avengers.

In the distant past, a massive meteorite comprised of the sound-absorbing mineral vibranium crashed in Wakanda, and was only recently unearthed. Knowing that other, more powerful nations would attempt to manipulate and dominate Wakanda for this rare and valuable resource, T'Chaka concealed Wakanda from the outside world. He would sell off minute amounts of the valuable vibranium while surreptitiously sending Wakanda's best scholars to university abroad, consequently turning Wakanda into one of the most technologically advanced nations in the world. Eventually, however the explorer Ulysses Klaw found his way to Wakanda, and using lies and subterfuge covered up his work on a vibranium-powered sound-based weapon. When exposed, Klaw killed T'Chaka and many other Wakandans, only to see his "sound blaster" turned on him by a grieving T'Challa, who was then barely a teenager. Klaw's right hand was destroyed, and he and his men fled.

T'Challa earned the title and attributes of the Black Panther by defeating the various champions of the Wakandan tribes. He then studied abroad before returning to his kingship. To prove himself worthy as the defender of his people, T'Challa attacked the Fantastic Four and defeated them in individual combat before revealing his reasons. After making up for the poor first impression with a sumptuous welcome, he persuaded the team to help him battle the returning Klaw. Klaw soon returned as a being made entirely of living sound. T'Challa became romantically involved with the American singer Monica Lynne and began a long association with the Avengers.

The role of Black Panther briefly fell into the hands of T'Challa's rival Erik Killmonger when Killmonger defeated T'Challa in ritual combat, only for Killmonger to fall into a coma upon eating the heart-shaped herb — toxic to anyone outside the royal bloodline, who had a hereditary immunity to its toxic effects.

Although it would have been far more convenient to allow him to die, and thus be unquestionably entitled to the title of the Black Panther, T'Challa preserved his rival's life - causing complications when Killmonmger subsequently awakened. At present, only an uneasy accommodation allows T'Challa to use the ritual garb and title.

As a result of eating the "heart-shaped herb," T'Challa possesses enhanced senses, strength, speed and dexterity. T'Challa is a rigorously trained gymnast and acrobat, a skilled hunter and scientist — he has a Ph.D. in physics from Oxford University. Wakanda's vibranium resources are often incorporated into his own crime fighting gear, allowing T'Challa to deflect or resist the impact of bullets and other weapons. His gloves contain vibranium-laced retractable claws that can be used as weapons or climbing tools. The soles of his boots are also laced with a thick layer of the material, which serves to cushion the impact of falls from great heights.

Hawkman I

Bio: (Via Comixfan) In ancient Egypt, was born Prince Khufu, a noble and wise ruler. With his beloved Chay-ara, they ruled over the country. With the aid of Teth-Adam and Nabu, as well as the mystical ninth metal that allowed flight, they made Egypt the pinnacle of civilization. But the evil priest Hath-Set despised them, and he killed them with a crystal dagger, but was cut down by the archers of Khufu. With his last breath, he placed a curse upon them, that they would all meet again, reincarnated to repeat the cycle.

And Hath-Set’s curse would have the three returned, die, and rise again throughout time, with Khufu appearing as everything from a knight to gunslinger to a private eye. In the 1930s, the most recent incarnation of Khufu was Carter Hall, an archeologist and millionaire. He had a fascination with Khufu and his Ninth (or Nth) metal, and encountered a man named Perry Carter, who shared his fascination. Perry Carter was actually an alien, a Thanagarian named Paran Katar, who was looking at the use of Nth Metal, which is native to Thanagar, on this primitive world. The two would become friends, and eventually Paran Katar would reveal his background to Carter, and even though Paran Katar left, he would later effect Carter’s life in an unexpected way.

As fate would have it, Carter not only obtained some of the Nth Metal, but the crystal dagger as well, and his memories of his life as Khufu came back to him. He also encountered Sheira Saunders, a reporter who he realized was the reincarnation of Chay-Ara. The two were forced into a confrontation with Anton Hastor, the reborn Hath-Set, and for the first time Carter donned the Nth Metal harness and mask, and became Hawkman.

Carter became a hero, fighting throughout the forties sometimes alone, sometimes with the Justice Society, where he often served as chairman, the All-Star Squadron, and with Sheira, who took on the identity of Hawkgirl. He fought the good fight until the Justice Society was called before HUAC, and like many of his contemporaries, he retired, married Sheira, and the two had a son, Hector.

When the new age of heroes began, the Justice Society returned to action briefly to work with their new young compatriots, the Justice League. After the first meeting, Carter stayed on, serving as a liaison and advisor to the new heroes. He became close friends with ray Palmer, the new Atom, and developed an adversarial, but grudgingly respectful, relationship with Green Arrow. He worked with the League for quite a while, sometimes with Hawkgirl as well, but eventually he retired again. During this time, Carter’s son Hector took up a heroic identity, the Silver Scarab, but this forced a wedge between the father and son.

When the Justice Society was forced to travel back in time to stop the altering of the end of World War II, Carter lead the charge into the alternate dimension where the Society would be locked in eternal battle with the Norse Gods. Eventually freed, Carter and Sheira met the Hawkman and Hawkwoman, Katar Hol and Shayera Thal. Carter was surprised to find that Katar was the son of his old friend Paran Katar, and the two shared a few adventures. Eventually, Carter and Sheria were forced to merge their spirits with that of Katar Hol to create a new Hawkman to stop a powerful Hawk God.

When Katar gave his life, the souls of the Halls were released. Sheira was reincarnated into the body of her grandniece, Kendra Saunders, while Carter remained behind until the new JSA journeyed to Thanagar to help liberate the planet from the oppressive dictator Synn. Through Thanagarian magics, Carter was returned to the land of the living, and took up the name of Hawkman again. He met the new incarnation of his love, his son, who had been reborn as the new incarnation of Dr. Fate, and many of his old friends. With Carter’s help, the JSA was able to defeat Synn.

Returning to Earth, Carter found it hard to adjust. Kendra refused his advances, unable to accept the tales of destined love. The two made peace, became friends, and both relocated to the city of St. Roch. A dark city riddled with corruption, Carter encountered many of his old enemies, including the Gentleman Ghost and a new incarnation of Hath-Set. While confronting a new threat called the Headhunter, Carter gave into the barbarian rage that had been brewing within in and had been haunting him since his reincarnation.

Carter seized control of the JSA and led them in an assault on Kahndaq, the nation that is the native land of Teth Adam, his old ally who now served as Black Adam. Carter brutally fought the heroes who served with Adam, including Northwind, who Carter was godfather too. In the end, Carter was able to face down his own darker nature, and made a sort of peace between Black Adam’s Kahndaq and the rest of the world. Carter took a leave of absence from the JSA after this, and now is trying to find his equilibrium in St. Roch.

Hawkman’s most evident ability is that of flight, granted to him by the Nth Metal harness. The Nth Metal also grants him heightened strength and an accelerated healing ability. He has mastery of many fighting styles and weapons, garnered over his many incarnations, and remembers much of what he’s learned over the centuries. Carter can also talk to birds and has heightened senses, able to count the flaps of a humming bird's wings.

Spiderman

Bio: (Via Marvel Directory and Wikipedia) Peter Parker was orphaned at the age of 6 when his parents were killed in an airplane crash overseas. He went to live with his uncle and aunt, Ben and May Parker, in Forest Hills, New York. Parker was extremely bright and became a high honors student at Midtown High School. Parker's shyness and scholastic interest often made him a social outcast. One evening Parker attended a public exhibition demonstrating the safe handling of nuclear laboratory waste materials sponcored by the General Techtronics Corporation.

During the demonstration, a small Common House Spider happened to be in the path of a particle accelerator's beam and was massively irradiated. The stricken spider fell on to Parker's hand, broke his skin with its fangs, and died. His hand burning from the bite, Parker left the exhibition. Parker made his way home and passed through an unfamiliar section of the city where he was accosted by a gang of hoodlums. Tossing the gang members aside, Parker was shocked by his own display of strength. As he fled from them, he ran into the path of a speeding car, and leaped to safety about 30 feet up onto a nearby wall. To his growing surprise, he discovered that he was able to stick to the wall with his fingertips. As he easily walked down a guy wire to the street below, he realized that henow possessed a superb sense of balance. Parker quickly associated these spider-like abilities with the bitefrom the irradiated spider.

Parker went home, where his Aunt May sent him on an errand to deliver clothing to a charity driver located in a nearby National Guard Armory. There he saw a wrestling match witch offered a prize for anyone who could remain in the ring at least 3 minutes with a professional wrestler. Interested in testing his new-found powers, Parker decided to accept the wrestler's challenge. Wearing a mask to conceal his features to avoid embarassment in cast he lost, he easily defeated his opponent. A television producer's talent agent spotted him and promised him a segment on a network variety show. Parker, calling himself the Amazing Spider-Man, accepted the offer and decided to use it as a springboard to a show business career as a spectacular stunt performer. Over the next several evenings, Parker used equipment borrowed from his high school to fabricate a fluid that imitated a spider's silk web, and spinneret devices to project that fluid from his wrists in the form of a web strand. He also silkscreened his original design for a costume onto a body stocking and full-head mask. Thus prepared, Peter Parker appeared as Spider-Man on national television and was an immediate media sensation.

Just after the conclusion of the television show, a buglar, being pursued by a security guard, ran by Parker who impetuously allowed him to pass although he could have easily stopped him. When reprimanded by the guard, Parker arrogantly replied he was a professional performer and that chasing criminals was the guard's job. Parker promptly forgot the incident. A few days later, Parker returned home to find that his Uncle Ben had been murdered by a burglar. A police officer informed him that the burglar had been trailed to a nearby abandoned warehouse where the police had him trapped. Grief-stricken, Parker rushed to the warehouse to seek vengeance. At the warehouse Parker, as Spider-Man, easily captured the burglar and realized that he was the same person that he had allowed to run past him earlier that day in the TV studio. He realized that if he had acted responsibly earlier, he might have prevented the death of his uncle. Filled with remorse, he realized that with power comes responsibility, and he vowed to never shirk that responsibility again.

Peter began to use his powers to fight crime. He also tried to join the hero team Fantastic Four in their formative stages but was dismissed. As a solo hero, Parker took pictures of his fights as Spider-Man using an automatic camera, and then sold the pictures to the Daily Bugle. Spider-Man rapidly became one of the most well-known citizens in New York City, although, unfortunately, many people think of him as a menace due to the editorials of Bugle's editor J. Jonah Jameson. Parker's main concern about Aunt May was that, if she ever found out his secret identity as Spider-Man, it would aggravate her weak heart condition.

During this time, Parker dated Betty Brant of the Daily Bugle, although Liz Allen had a crush on him. At the same time, both Aunt May and her neighbor, Aunt Anna, were encouraging Parker to date Anna's niece, Mary Jane Watson, whom he would not meet until months later.

After high school, Parker enrolled in Empire State University, and divided his time as a hero, a student, and photographer. Eventually, Parker moved into his own apartment. During this time, he developed a relationship with Gwen Stacey. Unfortunately, during Spider-Man's conflict with the original Green Goblin, Stacey was killed. Some time later, Parker developed a steady relationship with Mary Jane. Parker proposed marriage, although Mary Jane declined, and soon left Parker's life for many months.

Eventually, Parker graduated from ESU, and pursued his career as a hero and photographer. As he continued to live on his own, as his Aunt May decided to transform her house into a senior citizens' boarding house. At one point Parker began a romantic relationship and heroic partnership with the Black Cat, although Parker later broke it off due to the Black Cat's disdain for Parker's life apart from being Spider-Man.

Mesmero

Bio: (VIA Wikipedia) Mesmero was originally a small time crook who posed as a hypnotist at high society parties. He would use his mutant powers to 'mesmerize' guests into giving him their possessions and then making them forget about them. Mesmero drew the attention of Magneto, who wanted him to hypnotize Lorna Dane into believing that she was Magneto's daughter.

Mesmero succeeded in performing this task, however, a Sentinel attack revealed that the Magneto who had approached Mesmero was actually a robot. Mesmero then attacked the X-Men, the real Magneto appeared. The Master of Magnetism rendered Mesmero unconscious and stranded him in South America.

Mesmero has encountered the X-Men on a few other occasions as well as teams such as Excalibur, Fenris, the Dark Riders, and Alpha Flight.

When Mesmero joined the latest incarnation of the Weapon X program, the Director offered to increase Mesmero's hypnotic powers. Mesmero agreed and gained the ability to control entire crowds with a mere glance, instead of a mere handful of people.

To keep the public unaware of the "Neverland" mutant concentration camp, Mesmero posed as a government liaison. With this identity, he informed news reporters that "Neverland" doesn't exist nor is the government involved in abducting mutants.

While he was a member of Weapon X, Mesmero visited his dying mother. He had doctors help her as much as they could and used his powers to mesmerise his mother into believing she was healthy as ever. His mother knew it was an illusion, though, and she told him that she knew shortly before she died. Subsequently, Mesmero began to lose confidence in himself which caused him to lose his powers. Mesmero was transported to Neverland upon the Director's discovery of his power loss.

Brent Jackson, planning on raising a coup on Weapon X, rescued Mesmero. Mesmero spent several months in seclusion as Jackson helped him get his confidence back, and with it his powers.
